I'm guessing you, too, have had days where the day was a flop despite your best intentions and game plan. If we are sincere, it's not always just a bad day; sometimes, it's a bad week, month, or few months. I know I have had crisis moments where I dealt with health challenges while pregnant and emotionally fragile. I am glad I pushed through, and it was because of that trial that I had to switch to something more sustainable..the Robinson Curriculum, and I never looked back.
Even with a fantastic self-study methodology, I still had my bad and hectic days and learned that my attitude towards the day was EVERYTHING. Seriously, if you think you are failing at this, you will. Suppose you re-frame it as an opportunity to learn differently while you get your bearings or take care of something..then WIN-WIN. Perhaps this lousy day mindset could be a topic for a future School House live- let me know if you would be interested in that!
So here are my top 11 ways to...
This video was requested, and I have a feeling a lot of other homeschooling families are dealing with the same thing. Here is what I have learned as I navigated through these choppy waters and came out with a new lease on life and the correct aim to point my kids to.

I remember the first time I read my first classic novel; it was an experience I will never forget. Why didn't I start doing this sooner? Why did I assume reading anything other than non-fiction to learn something practical was a waste of time? As Ma Ingalls would say.."For shame, for shame."
Growing up, I was a voracious reader, reading everything I could get my hands on, such babysitter club books, goosebumps, Highlights magazine, and books like "How to Eat Friend Worms."
While those books served their noble purpose of fostering a love of reading, I realize now that they didn't leave much room for personal growth. While fun books teach us the pleasures of escaping between the pages, classics teach us lessons we didn't know we needed to learn.
Today's video shows that while kids need to read what they love, it is also important as parents to steer them towards classic literature from time to time or more frequently. Having classics embedded into a homeschool...

Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.
As a homeschooling mom, I appreciate GIGIL STEM kits as being both. It is efficient in delivering to my home a fun box with everything needed to complete several activities. There is no waste, just the necessary amount for each project, and I appreciate not having to run to the store and buy large quantities of items I only need one or a few of and then having to store the rest.
Educators create GIGL STEM kids for kids from Pre-K to 5th-grade ages. They contain hands-on activities, with a mixture of activity guides and instructions with video lessons. Each month explores a new theme in STEM.
As someone who focuses on the 3 R's for homeschooling, this is a perfect way to let my kids explore their interest and creativity in STEM-related areas.
Albert Einstein sums it up with his quote, "The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking." The perfect win-win is allowing me to focus on...
Hi {{ first_name }},
The pandemic has impacted our way of life in various ways. I think one positive effect is the awareness of social connection and how important it is for everyone.
Also did you notice when kids were forced to stay home as well as many workers, that no one was concerned with socialization?
My husband is one of those people who now permanently works from home. No one, I assure you, is asking him "What about socialization?". No one would also say that working from home should not be an option because of it.
I doubt we will hear the socialization criticism anymore, but if it does come up you could ask if working from home jobs are harmful to adults because of lack of socialization?
I think this brings us to a better place of discussion, of course it would be ridiculous to altogether ban or label something as harmful, but rather yes social connection is important but it is the responsibility of the individual or in a minor's case, the parent.
...While homeschooling is the best decision, there can still be many challenges to overcome. Perhaps you are transitioning from one school to another, bouncing around curriculums or life events getting in the way, and now you find there are gaps in knowledge or they are falling behind?
In today's blog, we'll discuss resources that can help you successfully homeschool.
Let's talk about the most common pain point when it comes to homeschooling:
MATH
Having watched my children use it closely, I think A+ Interactive Math is a fantastic resource! It was developed by an engineer and math tutor who understands the difficulties kids have, along with his wife, who is a computer programmer, to develop this amazing online all-in-one curriculum.
Once they start writing every day, it quickly becomes part of who they are and what they do. Even on days where you “skip” school/writing, they will write a letter, comic, journal or write notes to self.
As they recognize their love of and need for writing, they will move beyond getting it over with a more structured approach. Most successful writers — whatever that may mean to you — schedule their writing time first and actually put it on their calendars. RC students already have the advantage of it being part of their daily academic routine.
Every writer has experienced that awful feeling of sitting down and just staring at the blank paper, waiting for words to appear. This affliction, of course, is writer’s block, and it’s most often the result of rust...
Homeschooled children who grew up to be famous include Thomas Edison, Teddy Roosevelt, Agatha Christie, Andrew Carnegie, and Alexander Graham Bell.
I wonder if their parents had any regrets, but I think the majority of parents today with an overwhelming amount of choices, can experience FOMO or some little regrets.
bumper- me talking over it (alternate)-This video is about mine but what I am doing now to change it and how you can do it too.
Years ago I learned about the importance of parents reading aloud to their kids, aside from building comprehension, vocabulary, a love of books, the most important being a bonding activity.
I started the tradition and bought a simple low content book called Read Aloud Family Journal.
The challenge was to read aloud 100 books together and write down our thoughts about it after each book. I loved the concept! I wanted everyone to write in it though so with 6-7 entries per book it wouldn’t last us the way the book was intended. Still, I...
